Lifelong Wellness
Yoga I
Before taking this class, I had done yoga on my own and really enjoyed it. I was eager to take this class and learn more positions.
I am glad I took this class. I usually went home after class feeling more relaxed and peaceful. It has really helped me cope with a lot of stress and allowed me to learn new things. I really enjoyed the relaxation techniques and will continue to apply it as I continue with me college education. It also helped me to be more comfortable in social settings. Below is a survey I had to take at the end of the semester about this course:

Write a paragraph on each of the following:
What did you learn about “lifelong wellness” from taking this activity class?
I learned that not all exercise has to be fast-paced and hard to do. It was nice to be able to exercise in a gentle, slow way and still know I am getting in a workout. I learned simple ways I could relax and clear my mind, and also that I am more flexible than I ever thought I could be. I learned that I can control my daily aches and pains, and also that exercise could be fun as well as beneficial.
How would you apply this information to your life?
I am going to continue to practice yoga even after the class ends. It has been so helpful in controlling my pain levels and stress. I know that if I spend too long sitting in a chair, for example, I now have the tools to stretch my body properly to prevent and lingering stiffness. I also know that if I get really stressed, I can use yoga to calm down.
What is your intention to continue to exercise in your life and why?
I will keep doing the yoga because I have seen how incredibly good it has been for me. To be able to move about my daily routine with a minimum of pain is wonderful. I am able to walk farther and stretch for longer than I have in my entire life. Yoga has also been a great outlet for me to release negative thoughts and emotions. I also like that you can do yoga anywhere, all year long, with a minimum of equipment.
General ideas for improving this course?
I would suggest having it be a one hour course three times a week rather than a two hour class once a week. It can get to be painful when you are doing it for two hours straight, and then have no class in it until the next week. It would be more manageable and would provide more benefits to students to hold it more frequently. I would also suggest a bigger classroom as well.
